Introductory Commas

ការប្រើសញ្ញាក្បៀស (,) នៅដើមប្រយោគ

When we start a sentence with extra information, we need to take a breath before the main sentence. We use a comma , for this pause.

នៅពេលយើងចាប់ផ្តើមប្រយោគជាមួយព័ត៌មានបន្ថែម (ពាក្យ កន្សោមពាក្យ ឬអនុប្រយោគ) យើងត្រូវប្រើសញ្ញាក្បៀស (,) ដើម្បីដកដង្ហើមមុននឹងចូលដល់ប្រយោគគោល។

Good question, Sovan! Usually, for very short time words like 'Today' or 'Now', the comma is optional but helpful for pacing. However, for transition words like 'First', 'Therefore', or 'However', the comma is required! ✨

What if the 'because' is in the middle? Like: "I am happy because I passed the test." Do I need a comma?

No comma, Bopha! That is exactly what we call "The Reverse Trap" in this lesson. When the dependent clause (Because I passed...) comes at the end, you don't need a comma. You wrote it perfectly! ✅
