Quick Review: What is an Adjective?

An adjective is a word that describes a noun (a person, place, or thing). Remember the two most common positions:

1. Before the noun: I have a new phone.
2. After a "be" verb (is, am, are): My phone is new.

Word Bank: Describing People

Use these words to describe a person's appearance³ or personality⁴.

• Appearance: tall, short, young, old, long hair, short hair
• Personality: friendly, kind, funny, quiet, smart, shy, happy

Example: My teacher is a kind woman. She is very smart and friendly.

• Qualities: big, small, clean, busy, quiet, beautiful, new, old
• Opinions/Feelings: good, bad, delicious, expensive, cheap, interesting

Example: Kampot is a quiet town. It has many old, beautiful buildings. The food is delicious and not too expensive.
