Hello Learners! 👋
In our last lesson, we learned that sentences about the same topic go together. Today, we will practice writing 2 or 3 sentences that are all about one familiar topic, like your family or your pet.
In this lesson, you will:
- Review why sentences about one topic are grouped.
- See examples of short groups of related sentences.
- Practice writing your own 2-3 related sentences about familiar topics.
Writing About One Topic
When you write 2 or 3 sentences about the same thing, you are starting to build a paragraph! A paragraph is a group of sentences about one main idea.
Example 1: About "My Pet"
Topic: My Pet
I have a dog.
His name is Max.
Max likes to play ball.
All these sentences tell us about Max, the dog. They belong together.
Example 2: About "My Favorite Toy"
Topic: My Favorite Toy
My favorite toy is a blue car.
It is small and fast.
I play with it every day.
These sentences all describe the blue car. They are about one topic.
Remember to use capital letters at the start of each sentence and a full stop (.) at the end.
Activity 1: Complete the Related Sentences
The topic is given. Choose the best word to complete each sentence so all sentences are about the topic.
Activity 2: Write Your Own Related Sentences
Now it's your turn! Choose a topic. Then, answer the guiding questions to write 2 or 3 sentences about that topic. Try to make sure all your sentences are about your chosen topic.
Step 1: Choose a Topic

✨ Tips for Writing Related Sentences ✨
- Choose a Topic You Know: It's easier to write about something familiar.
- Think About Your Topic: Before you write, think of 2 or 3 simple things you can say about it.
- One Idea per Sentence: Keep your sentences simple for now.
- Read Them Together: After writing, read your sentences. Do they all talk about the same main idea? Do they make sense together?
- Check C.U.P.S.: Remember Capitals, Understanding, Punctuation, and Spelling!
