Basic Colors, Numbers, and Days

Using Vocabulary to Describe Your World
This lesson teaches you the basic words we use to describe the world around us.
Talking About Colors
We use colors to describe objects. The pattern is: Object + is + Color.
- The sky is blue.
- My pen is black.
Using Numbers
We use numbers to say how many things there are. The pattern is: I have + Number + Object.
- I have three books.
- She has one brother.
Days of the Week
We use the days of the week to talk about time. The pattern is: Today is + Day.
- Today is Wednesday.
- I go to the market on Saturday.

Building Descriptive Phrases
You can combine these vocabulary words to make your sentences more detailed and interesting.
Pattern 1: Number + Color + Object
When you use a number and a color to describe something, the number comes first, then the color.
- I have two red pens.
- She sees five white cows.
Pattern 2: ...on [Day]
To say you do something on a specific day, use the preposition "on".
- I play football on Sunday.
- We have English class on Monday and Wednesday.
Practice Your Vocabulary
Activity 1: I Spy
Play a game with a partner. Look around the room. Secretly choose an object. Say, "I spy with my little eye, something that is [color]." Your partner must guess the object.
Example: "I spy with my little eye, something that is white." Partner: "Is it the wall? Is it your shirt?"
Activity 2: What Day Is It?
Answer these questions with a full sentence.
- What day is today? (Answer: Today is Wednesday.)
- What day was yesterday? (Answer: Yesterday was Tuesday.)
- What day is tomorrow? (Answer: Tomorrow is Thursday.)
