Speaking: Pronunciation A2 - Lesson 5: Basic Sentence Rhythm

Lesson: Sentence Rhythm Welcome to your sentence rhythm training layout! I am your instructor, Teacher Sopheak. In English, we do not speak with a flat, uniform speed. English speech contains a natural musical beat where important words are strong and grammar words are short and quiet. Core Rhythm Rules: Strong Words (Content): Nouns, main verbs, adjectives, and adverbs receive full stress. Examples: DOGS, CHASE, CATS. Weak Words (Function): Articles, prepositions, and pronouns are spoken quickly and softly. Examples: the, are, to, for. The Schwa Sound (/ə/): Weak words drop their full vowel sounds and turn into a short 'uh' sound (e.g., 'to' becomes /tə/, 'for' becomes /fər/).
