Great question! CVC stands for Consonant-Vowel-Consonant. They are simple 3-letter words that always have a short vowel sound in the middle. Examples: C-A-T, B-E-D, P-I-G. They are the best words for learning to blend sounds! construction
Why does the letter 'c' sometimes sound like /k/ and sometimes like /s/?
Ah, the tricky letter 'c'! It's a copycat! Most of the time, especially in simple CVC words, it sounds like a hard /k/ (cat, cup). But if 'c' is followed by the letters 'e', 'i', or 'y', it becomes soft and sounds like /s/ (city, ice). We will learn the soft 'c' later! mood
