When speaking casually (informally), native speakers blend words together to speak faster.

Going to ➔ Gonna /ˈɡənə/ នឹង (I'm gonna go)

Want to ➔ Wanna /ˈwɒnə/ ចង់ (I wanna eat)

Don't know ➔ Dunno /dəˈnoʊ/ មិនដឹងទេ (I dunno)

Got to ➔ Gotta /ˈɡɒtə/ ត្រូវតែ (I gotta leave)

Formal (Polite) "Would you mind helping me?" តើអ្នកអាចជួយខ្ញុំបន្តិចបានទេ? (បញ្ចេញសំឡេងច្បាស់ៗ)

Informal (Casual) "Can you gimme a hand?" ជួយបន្តិចមក? (gimme = give me)

Informal (Fast Speech) "Whatcha doin'?" កំពុងធ្វើអីហ្នឹង? (What are you doing?)

The Context Trap!

Never WRITE these reductions in formal exams!

(កុំសរសេរពាក្យបង្រួមដូចជា gonna, wanna, lemme នៅក្នុងការប្រឡងសរសេរ (IELTS) ឲ្យសោះ! ពាក្យទាំងនេះសម្រាប់តែការ "និយាយ" និងការផ្ញើសារលេងជាមួយមិត្តភក្តិប៉ុណ្ណោះ។)

Speaking Test: "I'm gonna study abroad." ✅
(Sounds natural and fluent)

Writing Task 2: "The government is gonna build a hospital." ❌
(Too informal! Write "going to")

YES! In fact, the examiners want to hear it. Using reductions like "gonna" shows that you have natural, fluent connected speech. But remember the trap: NEVER use them in the IELTS Writing test! ✍️❌

If you speak like a textbook to your close friends (e.g., "Greetings, how do you do? I am going to depart now."), you might sound robotic, unnatural, or like you are keeping your distance from them. Tone matching is important! 🤖
