3. Reading: The Charm of Kep
The heart of the town is the bustling Crab Market. Early in the morning, wooden boats are driven to the shore by local fishermen like Kimsan. The freshest crabs are caught in traditional wooden traps. After they are brought to land, the seafood is quickly sorted and carried to the market.
At the market, you can find Sreymom, a popular seafood vendor. Her stall is always crowded. The crabs are cooked right in front of the customers. Often, they are fried with Kampot pepper, which is locally sourced from nearby farms. Visitors are usually captivated by the delicious smell that fills the air.
Last month, an old French colonial building near the market was renovated. It was transformed into a small museum where tourists can wander around and learn about Kep's history. When you look out from the museum's balcony, the picturesque landscape of the ocean can be seen. Kep is truly a place where history and nature are perfectly blended.
