Silent Letters

Did you know that about 60% of English words contain silent letters? These are letters that you write, but you never pronounce when speaking. Below are some of the most common rules and examples. Click the audio buttons to hear how they sound without the ghost letters!

Silent 'B'

Usually silent after 'M' at the end of a word, or before 'T'.

Silent 'K'

Always silent when it comes before an 'N' at the beginning of a word.
