Welcome to your B2 strategic reading configuration. I am Teacher Sopheak. At the upper-intermediate level, reading is no longer about simply decoding words in a linear sequence. It is a highly dynamic process. You must consciously manipulate your reading speed, actively interrogate the author's logic, and extract unified meaning from fragmented data sources.
Today, we upgrade your reading from a passive intake to an active, strategic extraction system.
1. Adaptive Reading Speeds
Fluent readers do not process every text at an identical pace. Treating a dense technical manual with the same pacing as a casual blog post leads to cognitive fatigue. You must intentionally shift gears based on your ultimate objective.
The most common barrier preventing B2 students from advancing to C1 is reading every text word-by-word. Attempting a "Deep Decoding" approach on a 10-page industry report when you only need to find a single statistic will drain your time and operational efficiency.
2. Active Text Interrogation
Do not be a passive receptor of information. To maintain focus during complex texts, you must actively "interrogate" the author in real-time. Formulate internal questions as you navigate the paragraphs to verify the author's logic and detect inherent biases.
Strategic Interrogation Prompts:
- Verification: "What empirical data supports this bold claim?"
- Bias Detection: "Is the author employing loaded adjectives to manipulate my perspective?"
- Predictive Logic: "Based on this opening premise, what is the inevitable conclusion of the next section?"
3. Cross-Text Synthesis
In modern professional environments, data rarely exists in a single, isolated paragraph. You must frequently synthesize (combine) meaning from multiple, fractured sources to grasp the complete operational picture.
"Our Battambang branch experienced a slight operational delay in Q3 due to severe logistical disruptions caused by the unexpected monsoon intensity."
