In this beginner vocabulary lesson, you will learn high-frequency action verbs and essential question words. We will also focus on correcting a common mistake: putting question words at the end of the sentence instead of the beginning.

Today, we will learn essential action verbs and the most important question words so you can easily ask for directions or talk about your favorite food!

Core Words & Phrases

Action Verb

Go /ɡoʊ/ To move to a place.

Example: Every morning, I go to the market to buy fresh fruit.

Action Verb

Eat /iːt/ To put food in the mouth and swallow.

Example: We always eat noodles for breakfast.

Question Word

What /wʌt/ Asking for information about something.

Example: What do you want to drink at the cafe?

Where /wer/ Asking in or to what place.

Example: Where is the best place to see the sunset?

warning Watch Out: Question Word Order!

In English, question words go at the BEGINNING!

In many languages, the question word comes at the end of the sentence. In English, the "Wh-" question word must come at the very beginning!
