Welcome! When I take my students on a walking tour around Battambang, we always talk about what we see. We might say, "There is a beautiful pagoda here" or "There are many fruit stalls." Mastering "There is" and "There are" is the best way to describe a scene, guide a tourist, or answer a simple question about your hometown.

warning Common Mistake
In Khmer, we use the word "mean" (មាន) for both having something ("I have") and saying something exists ("There is"). Because of this, Cambodian students often say "It has a temple here." This sounds unnatural in English. You should say "There is a temple here."

Short for "There is not." Used to state that a single thing is missing.
មិនមាន... ទេ (ឯកវចនៈ) - បញ្ជាក់ថាមិនមានវត្ថុណាមួយនៅទីនោះទេ។
Example: There isn't a direct train from Battambang to Siem Reap.
ឧទាហរណ៍៖ មិនមានរថភ្លើងផ្ទាល់ពីបាត់ដំបងទៅសៀមរាបទេ។

Short for "There are not." Used to state that multiple things are missing.
