Modal verbs are the key to doing this politely and correctly. Let's learn the difference between telling a guest what they must do, and what they should do.

warning Common Mistake: Mustn't vs. Don't have to
In English, "Must not" (Mustn't) means an action is strictly forbidden (Prohibition). However, "Don't have to" means the action is completely optional (It is not necessary, but you can if you want).Example: You mustn't smoke in the temple. (Rule). You don't have to tip the driver. (Your choice).
នៅក្នុងភាសាអង់គ្លេស "Must not" មានន័យថាសកម្មភាពមួយត្រូវបានហាមឃាត់យ៉ាងតឹងរ៉ឹង។ ប៉ុន្តែ "Don't have to" មានន័យថាសកម្មភាពនោះជាជម្រើស (មិនចាំបាច់ធ្វើទេ តែអ្នកអាចធ្វើបានបើសិនជាចង់)។ ឧទាហរណ៍៖ អ្នក "mustn't" (ហាម) ជក់បារីក្នុងវត្ត។ អ្នក "don't have to" (មិនចាំបាច់) ឱ្យលុយធីបទៅអ្នកបើកបរទេ។

Strong Obligation
Must
Used to express a strong obligation, a strict rule, or a personal necessity.
ត្រូវតែ - ប្រើដើម្បីបញ្ជាក់ពីកាតព្វកិច្ច ច្បាប់តឹងរ៉ឹង ឬភាពចាំបាច់។
Example: You must wear clothes that cover your shoulders and knees at Angkor Wat.
ឧទាហរណ៍៖ អ្នកត្រូវតែស្លៀកសម្លៀកបំពាក់ដែលបិទជិតស្មា និងជង្គង់របស់អ្នកនៅអង្គរវត្ត។
External Necessity
Have to
Used to express an obligation that comes from outside (like a law or a boss's order).
ត្រូវតែ / មានភារកិច្ចត្រូវ - ប្រើដើម្បីបញ្ជាក់ពីកាតព្វកិច្ចដែលមកពីខាងក្រៅ (ដូចជាច្បាប់)។
Example: Official tour guides have to show their license to the guards at the checkpoint.
ឧទាហរណ៍៖ មគ្គុទ្ទេសក៍ទេសចរណ៍ផ្លូវការត្រូវតែបង្ហាញអាជ្ញាប័ណ្ណរបស់ពួកគេទៅកាន់ឆ្មាំនៅកន្លែងត្រួតពិនិត្យ។
Advice
Should
Used to give advice, a recommendation, or to say what is a good idea.
គួរតែ - ប្រើដើម្បីផ្តល់ការណែនាំ ឬយោបល់ល្អៗ។
Example: You should drink plenty of water because it gets very hot in Cambodia.
ឧទាហរណ៍៖ អ្នកគួរតែផឹកទឹកឱ្យបានច្រើនព្រោះអាកាសធាតុក្តៅខ្លាំងនៅកម្ពុជា។
Strong Advice
Ought to
Similar to "should", but often feels slightly stronger or more formal.
គប្បី / គួរតែ - ស្រដៀងនឹង "should" តែច្រើនតែស្តាប់ទៅផ្លូវការ ឬមានទម្ងន់ជាង។
Example: We ought to leave the hotel early if we want to see the sunrise at the temple.
ឧទាហរណ៍៖ យើងគប្បីចាកចេញពីសណ្ឋាគារឱ្យបានព្រលឹម ប្រសិនបើយើងចង់មើលថ្ងៃរះនៅប្រាសាទ។
Prohibition
Mustn't
Short for "must not". Means an action is strictly forbidden by rules or law.
ហាម / មិនត្រូវ - សកម្មភាពមួយត្រូវបានហាមឃាត់យ៉ាងតឹងរ៉ឹងដោយច្បាប់។
Example: Visitors mustn't touch the ancient carvings on the temple walls.
ឧទាហរណ៍៖ ភ្ញៀវទេសចរហាមប៉ះចម្លាក់បុរាណនៅលើជញ្ជាំងប្រាសាទ។
No Necessity
Don't have to
Means an action is optional. You can do it if you want, but it is not required.
មិនចាំបាច់ - មានន័យថាសកម្មភាពមួយជាជម្រើស (មិនតម្រូវឱ្យធ្វើទេ)។
Example: You don't have to buy a new ticket today; your 3-day pass is still valid.
ឧទាហរណ៍៖ អ្នកមិនចាំបាច់ទិញសំបុត្រថ្មីទេថ្ងៃនេះ; សំបុត្រ៣ថ្ងៃរបស់អ្នកនៅតែមានសុពលភាព។
