A Misunderstanding

Resolving conflicts and clarifying meaning.

Tone and Intent

In English, the words you use are important, but how you say them (your tone) is just as important. Sometimes, people can misunderstand each other because of tone or different cultural expectations.

If a colleague calls your idea "interesting", they might mean it is creative and unique. However, if they say it with a certain tone, they might be using sarcasm, meaning they actually think it is a bad idea!

When a misunderstanding happens, it is important to communicate directly and "clear the air."
