Reading in the Real World
When you are cooking dinner or ordering food at a restaurant, you don't read the menu or recipe like a book. Instead, you use a skill called scanning.
If you want to know how much a dish costs, your eyes skip all the descriptions and look straight for the $ symbol. If you are baking a cake and need to know how much sugar to use, you scan the ingredients list looking specifically for numbers like 1 cup or 200g.
Go to the next tab to learn the vocabulary, then test your scanning skills on the Recipe, Menu, and Receipt in the Practice tab!
