Lesson 01: Student ID Scan

🔍 Reading Lab
Scanning
Lesson Goal: Learn how to find specific information quickly on everyday items like ID cards and tickets.

What is Functional Scanning?

When you read a story, you usually read every single word from the beginning to the end. But when you look at a bus schedule, an ID card, or a movie ticket, you don't read like that!

Instead, you use a skill called scanning. Your eyes jump around the document looking for specific shapes, numbers, or keywords. For example, if you want to know when your ID expires, you don't read your name or address; your eyes immediately jump to words like VALID or EXP to find the date.

Go to the next tab to learn the vocabulary, then test your scanning skills in the Practice tab!
