B2 Writing: The Essay
The Blueprint
The 5-Paragraph Structure
A B2 essay is like a building. If the foundation (Structure) is weak, the beautiful words (Vocabulary) will collapse.
1. INTRODUCTION
Function: Hook + Context + Thesis Statement (Your main argument).
2. BODY 1 (Argument A)
Structure: Topic Sentence $\rightarrow$ Evidence $\rightarrow$ Analysis.
3. BODY 2 (Argument B)
Structure: Topic Sentence $\rightarrow$ Evidence $\rightarrow$ Analysis.
4. BODY 3 (Argument C / Counter)
Structure: Acknowledge the other side, then refute it.
5. CONCLUSION
Function: Restate Thesis (new words) + Summary + Final Thought. No new info!
The Thesis Statement
Argument vs. Fact
"Exercise is good for you."
❌ Too general. This is a fact, not an argument.
"Regular exercise improves mental health, increases longevity, and boosts energy."
✅ Strong! It lists specific reasons (A, B, C) to guide the essay.
"Remote work should be encouraged because it saves money and reduces pollution."
✅ Strong! A clear opinion with measurable reasons.
"Many people work from home today."
❌ Weak. This is just an observation/fact.
