Writing: Complex Text Types C1
Lesson 11: Writing a Proposal (Academic or Business)
Listen to key concepts and examples.
Before You Start: C1 Key Vocabulary 🧠
A proposal is a sales document. It "sells" an idea. These words are crucial.
The B1 Request vs. The C1 Proposal
A B1-level request states a *want*. A C1-level proposal proves a *need* and demonstrates the *value* of the solution.
WEAK (B1 Request)
"I think we should buy new laptops. Our computers are old and slow. It would be good for the staff."
STRONG (C1 Proposal)
"This proposal outlines a phased replacement of all front-line computers. The justification is a documented 20% loss in productivity directly attributed to outdated hardware. The proposed solution will be implemented over six months, with a final deliverable of a fully upgraded workforce, yielding an estimated ROI of $50,000 in the first year."
The 3 Pillars of a Persuasive Proposal 🏛️ (Click 🔊)
Whether academic or business, every strong proposal must answer three questions.
