From the ancient temples of Angkor to modern music and film, Cambodia has a rich and vibrant culture1. The expression of this culture through painting, dance, and stories is known as the arts2. This lesson will give you the B2-level vocabulary you need to discuss and appreciate arts and culture with more depth.

Usage Note: The Many Meanings of "Art"

The word 'art' can be used in a few different ways:

  • Art (uncountable): The general activity of creating.
    Example: "I am studying art at university."
  • The arts (plural): All creative fields together (painting, music, theatre, etc.).
    Example: "The government should provide more funding for the arts."
  • An art (countable): A specific skill that needs practice.
    Example: "Being a good teacher is an art."
