Imperatives

ប្រយោគបញ្ជា (Commands)

We use imperatives to give commands. We start the sentence directly with a Verb!

យើងប្រើប្រយោគបញ្ជា ដើម្បីប្រាប់នរណាម្នាក់ឱ្យធ្វើអ្វីមួយ។ យើងចាប់ផ្តើមប្រយោគដោយកិរិយាសព្ទតែម្តង!

ប្រយោគបញ្ជាស្រប (Positive Commands)

Stand up.

/stænd ʌp/ ក្រោកឈរឡើង។

Listen to me.

/ˈlɪsən tu mi/ ស្តាប់ខ្ញុំ។

Open the door.

/ˈoʊpən ðə dɔr/ បើកទ្វារ។

ប្រយោគបញ្ជាបដិសេធ (Negative Commands)

Don't run.

/doʊnt rʌn/ កុំរត់។

Don't touch.

/doʊnt tʌtʃ/ កុំប៉ះ។

Don't be late.

/doʊnt bi leɪt/ កុំមកយឺត។

The "You" Trap! ⚠️

Do not use "You" in a command.

(អន្ទាក់ពាក្យ "You": ក្នុងប្រយោគបញ្ជា យើងមិនត្រូវដាក់ពាក្យ You នៅខាងដើមនោះទេ!)

Great question, Sovan! We usually say "Don't smoke" when giving a command to a person. "No smoking" is a noun phrase used for signs on the wall! 🚭
