✨ Lesson 1: Basic Sentence Order

Welcome to our new topic: Sentence Structure¹! A sentence² is a complete idea. In English, the word order³ is very important to make a clear sentence.

Today, we will learn the most basic and most important sentence order in English.

The Core of a Sentence: Subject + Verb

Every sentence needs at least two parts:

• The Subject⁴: WHO or WHAT is doing the action.
• The Verb: The ACTION or state of being.

Look at these very short sentences:

[I] [eat].

[She] [works].

[The boats] [move].

The Full Sentence: Subject + Verb + Object

To make our sentences more interesting, we often add an Object⁵. The object receives the action of the verb. It answers the question "what?" or "who?".

This is the most common sentence structure in English!

[Subject] + [Verb] + [Object].

[ WHO ] + [ DOES ] + [ WHAT ].

Let's look at some examples:

• [I] [like] [Kampot pepper]. (WHO: I, DOES: like, WHAT: Kampot pepper)
• [My mother] [cooks] [dinner]. (WHO: My mother, DOES: cooks, WHAT: dinner)
• [The tourists] [buy] [souvenirs]. (WHO: The tourists, DOES: buy, WHAT: souvenirs)
