Reading: Understanding Different Text Types & Genres (Basic)
A2 Lesson 2: Understanding Simple Instructions & Forms
Reading to Do Something
Last time, we learned to identify different texts like stories and menus. Today, we will look at two very important text types that require careful reading: Instructions1 and Forms2.
Understanding these helps you do things correctly, from classroom activities to applying for a library card.
Part 1: Understanding Instructions
What are they? A set of steps that tell you how to do something in the correct order.
Look for: Numbered lists (1, 2, 3...), sequence words (First, Next, Then), and action verbs at the start of sentences.
How to Read Them: Read every step carefully. Do not skip any steps. The order is very important.
Example:
- Find the book you want on the shelf.
- Take the book to the front desk.
- Give the librarian your student card.
- The librarian will scan the book for you.
Part 2: Understanding Forms
What are they? A document with empty spaces where you write your personal information.
Look for: Labels followed by blank lines (e.g., Name: ___), and special vocabulary like 'First Name', 'Last Name', 'Signature'.
How to Read Them: Read each label carefully. Write the correct information in the space next to or below the label.
Example:
Your Turn! What is it?
