That is the tricky part of C1 reading! If you don't know the reference (like a Greek myth), you have to use the context clues around it to guess the meaning. And then, search for it later to build your cultural vocabulary! local_library
How do I know if I am overthinking the subtext?
If you have to make 4 or 5 big logical leaps to reach your conclusion, you are probably overthinking. Subtext usually relies on universal human emotions or clear context clues provided by the author. psychology
