Native speakers often squish words together when saying hello and goodbye. It sounds like one long word!

How are you? → Howarya? The "are" gets very short. ហាវ-អារ-យូ → ហាវ-វ៉ា-យ៉ា

How is it going? → Howzit goin? The "s" sounds like "z" and "g" is dropped. តើមានរឿងអ្វីខ្លះ? (ហៅ-ហ្សិត-ហ្គោ-អុីន)

How are you doing? → Howyadoin? The "are" disappears almost completely. តើអ្នកសុខសប្បាយទេ? (ហាវ-យ៉ា-ឌូ-អុីន)

What is up? → Whassup? Very casual greeting with friends. វ៉ត-សាប់ (និយាយលឿនៗ)

What are you doing? → Whatcha doin? "What are you" sounds like "Whatcha". តើអ្នកកំពុងធ្វើអ្វី? (វ៉ត-ឆា-ឌូ-អុីន)

What is going on? → Wassgoinon? Asking what is happening right now. តើមានរឿងអ្វីកើតឡើង? (វ៉ាស-ហ្គោ-អុីន-អន)

See you later → Seeya later "You" becomes a fast "ya". ជួបគ្នាពេលក្រោយ (ស៊ី-យ៉ា-ឡេ-ធឺរ)

Catch you later → Catchya later Casual way to say goodbye to a friend. ជួបគ្នាពេលក្រោយ (ខាត់-ឆា-ឡេ-ធឺរ)

Have a good one → Havagoodone Means "Have a good day/night/weekend". ជូនពរឱ្យមានថ្ងៃល្អ (ហាវ-វ៉ា-ហ្គូត-វ័ន)

Got to go → Gotta go Said quickly when leaving in a hurry. ត្រូវទៅសិនហើយ (ហ្គោ-តា-ហ្គោ)

It is called "Connected Speech"! Native speakers link words together to make speaking smoother and use less effort. It takes time, but listening practice will train your ears to catch these sounds! 🎧

You can absolutely say it slowly and clearly! Everyone will understand you. However, learning "Howarya" is important so you can understand native speakers when they speak fast to you. 🤝
