Is it okay to use my own words when reconstructing, or should I try to quote the speaker exactly?
You MUST use your own words (paraphrase). Quoting is just memory. Synthesizing the argument into your own C2-level vocabulary proves you truly comprehended the underlying logic. The only exception is if they use a highly specific technical term! 💡
