Summarization Mastery
Active listening isn't about memorizing everything. It's about distilling a 5-minute speech into 3 key sentences.
Strategy 1: The 5 Ws 🔍
When listening to a long text, listen strictly for the core facts to build your summary foundation.
Strategy 2: Signposts 🚩
Speakers use "signpost words" to signal their main points and conclusions. Listen for these!
Strategy 3: Paraphrasing
A good summary doesn't "parrot" (copy exactly) the speaker. You must rewrite the meaning using your own words.
Filter the Noise!
- Long, specific examples.
- Exact dates/numbers (unless it's the main point).
- The speaker's jokes or tangents.

Hi Makara! If they are speaking fast, focus ONLY on the **nouns and verbs**. Don't worry about the adjectives. Also, listen for repeated words; speakers usually repeat the main topic multiple times. 🎧💪
Can I use the exact same words as the speaker in my summary?
A little bit is okay, Sovan. But to get a high B2/C1 score, you must **paraphrase**. This proves you actually understood the concept, rather than just copying sounds like a parrot! 🦜🚫
