Nestled at the foot of the Elephant Mountains, Kampot is famous for its serene river and world-class spice. It is also home to Dara and Nita, two friends who prove that opposites attract. Dara is a highly conscientious pepper farmer. He wakes up before dawn to carefully tend to his vines. Because farming requires deep patience, Dara is naturally introverted and enjoys the quiet solitude of his plantation. However, he is exceptionally dependable; if Dara promises a delivery, the restaurants in town know it will arrive on time without fail.

Down by the riverside, Nita runs a bustling boutique guesthouse. Unlike Dara, Nita is incredibly outgoing and loves chatting with tourists from all over the world. She is an ambitious businesswoman who always looks for ways to expand her services. Last year, she proved she was a true go-getter by securing a unique partnership with local guides to offer exclusive sunset river tours.

Their vastly different personalities often complement each other. Before Nita opened her riverside business, she had worked in a stressful corporate job in Phnom Penh. She had realized that the chaotic city life wasn't for her, so she packed her bags and moved to Kampot. Before making this life-changing decision, she had saved enough money for five years to buy an old French colonial building.

Dara, on the other hand, had inherited his organic pepper farm from his grandfather. By the time he was twenty-five, he had already mastered the complex organic farming techniques required to earn the prestigious Kampot Pepper certification. When they finally crossed paths three years ago, Dara had just lost a major restaurant buyer, and Nita had just finished renovating her kitchen. It was a perfect match of supply and demand.

Last weekend, Nita hosted a grand tasting event. By the time Dara arrived with his premium black pepper, Nita had already set up the tables and had invited fifty guests. When Nita suddenly decided to change the tasting menu at the last minute—a rather impulsive move—Dara remained completely calm. He is extremely easygoing when dealing with sudden stress. However, Dara can be quite stubborn when it comes to the quality of his crop; he flatly refused to let Nita mix it with cheaper, imported spices. Fortunately, Nita is open-minded and listened to his expert advice. Because she had trusted his expertise, the dinner was a massive success.

Reading Comprehension

Nita Dara, the guests couldn't stop talking about your pepper last night!
Dara I'm glad to hear that, Nita. I had worried that the spice level was too high before the dinner began.
Nita Not at all! Actually, before the main course was even served, three people had already asked where they could buy it.
Dara That's great. You know, I can be a bit introverted, so I'm glad I didn't have to talk to the crowd.
Nita I know! You are incredibly dependable, but sometimes you need to be a bit more of a go-getter with your marketing!
Dara I'll leave the outgoing stuff to you. I'm just easygoing when it comes to business.
Nita Well, because I had printed those flyers earlier, everyone knew your farm's name by the end of the night.
