Lesson 62: Khmer New Year

Khmer New Year

Understanding the traditions of Sangkran.

Lesson Goal: Learn to listen for sequential markers (first, second, final) to understand the order of cultural events.

Listening for Sequence

When people explain traditions or festivals that last for several days, they usually talk about events in chronological order.

To understand the conversation, you don't need to hear every word. Instead, focus on listening for Sequence Markers. Pay close attention when the speaker says words like "first day", "second day", or "final day". This will help you map out exactly what happens and when.

Go to the next tab to learn the holiday vocabulary, then listen to David and Sophea talk about Sangkran in the Practice tab!
