Part 1: Key Recipe Verbs (Imperatives)
Imperatives are the most important part of a recipe. They are "command" verbs that tell the reader what to do. They always start the sentence. Click 🔊 to hear the words and examples.
Cut the tomato. Chop the onion.
Add the sugar. Pour the water.
Mix the eggs. Stir the soup.
Boil the water. Fry the chicken.
Part 2: How to Order Steps (Sequencing)
You must give the instructions in the correct order. We use "sequencing words" to guide the reader from one step to the next.
The Structure: Sequencer + Imperative
Sequencing Words:
- First, ... (Use for step 1)
- Next, ... (Use for step 2)
- Then, ... (Use for step 3, 4, 5...)
- Finally, ... (Use for the last step)
First, boil the water. Next, add the noodles. Then, stir for three minutes. Finally, serve it in a bowl.
Example Recipe: How to Make Simple Lemonade 🍋
Ingredients:
- 1 lemon (ក្រូចឆ្មា ១)
- 1 spoon of sugar (ស្ករ ១ស្លាបព្រា)
- 1 cup of cold water (ទឹកត្រជាក់ ១ពែង)
Instructions:
- First, cut one lemon in half.
- Next, squeeze the juice into a cup.
- Then, add one spoon of sugar and cold water.
- Finally, stir everything together and enjoy!
