Sunny, Rainy, or Cloudy?
The weather1 changes what we do and what we wear every day. Is it a good day to go to the park? Should I take an umbrella? This lesson will teach you the basic English words to describe the weather in Cambodia.
Word Bank: Describing the Weather

Usage Note: How to Describe the Weather
To talk about the weather, we ask the question: "What's the weather like?"
The most common way to answer is with the structure: "It is + [Weather Adjective]". We often shorten "It is" to "It's".
- "It is sunny." ➞ "It's sunny."
- "It is hot today." ➞ "It's hot today."
- "It is not rainy." ➞ "It's not rainy."

Srey and Maria are making plans for the day.
Srey: Good morning, Maria! What's the weather like today?
Maria: Good morning! It's very sunny right now, but the sky looks a little cloudy.
Srey: I see. Do you think it will be rainy this afternoon? This is the rainy season.
Maria: Maybe. It's also very hot!
Srey: Yes, it is! I hope it becomes windy. A nice, cool breeze would be perfect.
Maria: I agree!
