Core & Everyday Vocabulary (A2)

Welcome to our new A2 level series! We will build on what you already know to help you speak with more detail. Our first topic is the "daily routine1". Describing your daily life is a great way to practice the simple present tense and learn essential verbs for conversation.

Word Bank: Phrases for Your Day

Example: "I wake up at 6 AM every morning."
get up3 ក្រោកពីគេង To get out of your bed after waking up.

Example: "After I get up, I take a shower."
have breakfast5 ញ៉ាំអាហារពេលព្រឹក To eat the morning meal.
Example: "We have breakfast at 7 o'clock."
go to work6 ទៅធ្វើការ To travel to your job.
Example: "He goes to work by moto."
start work7 ចាប់ផ្តើមការងារ To begin your job for the day.
Example: "I start work at 8 AM."
finish work8 បញ្ចប់ការងារ To end your job for the day.
Example: "She finishes work at 5 PM."
cook dinner9 ចំអិនអាហារពេលល្ងាច To prepare the evening meal.
Example: "My mother cooks dinner for the family."
go to bed10 ចូលគេង To go into your bed to sleep.
Example: "I usually go to bed around 10:30 PM."

Usage Note: Time Prepositions (AT, IN, ON)

Remember to use the correct prepositions when talking about time.

  • Use AT for specific times: at 6 o'clock, at sunrise, at night.
  • Use IN for parts of the day: in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening.
  • Use ON for specific days: on Monday, on the weekend.

In Conversation

Srey asks Bora about his typical day.

Srey: Bora, what time do you usually wake up?

Bora: I wake up at 6 AM, but I don't get up until 6:15. I like to check my phone first.

Srey: Me too! After I take a shower, I have breakfast. I usually just have some bread and coffee.

Bora: I go to work at 7:30. I start work at 8 o'clock sharp.

Srey: What do you do in the evening?

Bora: I finish work at 5 PM. Then I go home and my wife cooks dinner. After dinner, we watch TV. I try to go to bed by 10 PM because I'm always tired!
