Grammar: Affirmative Statements
A1 Lesson 3: Using Action Verbs
What is an Action Verb? 🏃♀️
In our last lesson, we used the verb 'to be' to describe states (I am happy). Today, we use action verbs to describe what someone or something does. Action verbs are words like run, eat, work, study, and live.
The Grammar Rule 📖
How to Build Action Sentences
Structure | Purpose | Example |
---|---|---|
Subject + Verb | The most basic action sentence. | She reads. |
Subject + Verb + Object | Shows who or what receives the action. | He rides a motorcycle. |
Subject + Verb + Place/Time | Adds details about where or when. | They work at a hotel. |
In Conversation
Here is a simple conversation using action verbs.
Sokha: What do you do?
Piseth: I work at a hotel.
Sokha: Oh, nice. My brother lives in Siem Reap, too. He drives a tuk-tuk.
Piseth: Cool! We like Siem Reap.
