A2 Lesson 1: Writing Simple Sentences with Adjectives
You know how to write a simple sentence like, "I have a phone." This is a good sentence, but we can add more detail1 to make it more interesting. Today, we will learn to use adjectives2 to describe things.
An adjective is a word that describes a noun3 (a person, place, or thing). It can tell us about size, color, feeling, or quality.
Rule 1: Adjective Before the Noun
The most common way to use an adjective is to put it before the noun it describes.
Look at how we add an adjective to make the sentence better:
He drives a blue moto.
She is a good student.
Common Mistake
He drives a moto blue.
Rule 2: Adjective After a "Be" Verb (is, am, are)
The other common way to use an adjective is to put it after a "be" verb.
The sentence structure is: Subject + be Verb + Adjective.
The coffee is hot.
I am hungry.
The mangoes are delicious.
