Hello Learners! 👋

Today, we'll learn about capital letters (also called uppercase letters). Capital letters are important in English writing. We use them in special places.

In this lesson, you will learn two important rules:

  • When to use a capital letter for the word "I".
  • How to use a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence.

Rule 1: The Word "I" is Always Capital!

When you are talking about yourself using the word "I", it is always a capital letter. It doesn't matter where it is in the sentence.

Examples:

  • I am happy.
  • My name is Tom, and I like blue.
  • Can I have a pen?

Incorrect:

  • i am happy. (This is not correct)

Activity 1: Is "I" Correct?

Look at the sentences. Is the word "I" written correctly? Choose "Yes" or "No".

Rule 2: Start Sentences with a Capital Letter!

Every time you start a new sentence, the first letter of the first word must be a capital letter.

Examples:

  • My cat is black.
  • She is a teacher.
  • The sun is hot.

Incorrect:

  • my cat is black. (This is not correct)

Activity 2: Correct the First Letter

Look at the sentences. The first letter is small. Type the sentence again with the correct capital letter at the start.

Activity 3: Putting It All Together!

Now, let's practice both rules! Rewrite the sentences below with the correct capital letters for "I" and for the start of sentences.

✨ Tips for Remembering Capital Letters ✨

  • Think "I am important!": The word "I" is always important, so it gets a capital letter.
  • Sentences are like trains: The first car (the first letter) is big and leads the way!
  • Check your writing: After you write, always look for "I" and the start of your sentences. Did you use capital letters?
  • Read simple stories: Notice how capital letters are used in books.

Great Work on Capital Letters! 🎉

You've learned two very important rules for using capital letters in English. Keep practicing when you write!
