Hello Learners! 👋
Last time, we learned about Subjects and Verbs. Today, we will add one more part to make our sentences even better: an Object!
In this lesson, you will learn:
- What an object is in a sentence.
- How to make sentences with a Subject, a Verb, and an Object (S-V-O).
- To use capital letters and full stops correctly in these sentences.
Adding an Object (S-V-O)
Many sentences have three main parts:
- A Subject (S): WHO or WHAT does the action.
- A Verb (V): THE ACTION.
- An Object (O): WHO or WHAT receives the action of the verb. It often answers "what?" or "whom?" after the verb.
We put them together like this: Subject + Verb + Object.
Examples:
- I like cats.
- Subject: I
- Verb: like
- Object: cats (I like what? Cats.)
- She reads a book.
- Subject: She
- Verb: reads
- Object: a book (She reads what? A book.)
- He has a pen.
- Subject: He
- Verb: has
- Object: a pen (He has what? A pen.)
Remember: Start with a capital letter and end with a full stop (.). And "I" is always capital!
Activity 1: Choose the Object
You have a subject and a verb. Choose an object from the buttons to complete the sentence.
Activity 2: Build the S-V-O Sentence!
You have a subject, a verb, and an object. Write the full sentence. Remember your capital letter and full stop!
Activity 3: More Sentence Building!
Let's make more sentences! Look at the parts and write the full sentence correctly.
✨ Tips for S-V-O Sentences ✨
- Who/What does? (Subject): The cat...
- Does what? (Verb): The cat eats...
- Eats what/whom? (Object): The cat eats fish.
- Check C.U.P.S. again: Capitals, Understanding (Does it make sense?), Punctuation (full stop), Spelling.
- Simple Objects: Use common nouns you know like "ball", "book", "apple", "water", "school".
