Learning Words with Pictures

Today, we will learn new vocabulary in context⁴. This means we will learn a word's meaning by looking at a picture and seeing it in a simple sentence.

We will learn three types of words:

• Nouns¹ (people, places, things)
• Verbs² (action words)
• Adjectives³ (describing words)

Part 1: Nouns (Thing, Person, Place)

A Noun is a word for a thing, a person, or a place. Look at the examples.

moto (thing)
This is a moto.

market (place)
I go to the market.

student (person)
She is a student.

Part 2: Verbs (Action Words)

A Verb is an action word. It shows what someone or something is doing.

run (action)
The boy can run.

eat (action)
We eat rice for lunch.

swim (action)
I like to swim in the river.

Part 3: Adjectives (Describing Words)

An Adjective describes a noun. It tells you more about its size, color, or feeling.

hot (describes weather)
The weather is hot.

happy (describes a person)
The student is happy.

blue (describes a color)
My pen is blue.

Homework Task

Word Hunt! Look around your classroom or home.

1. Write the names of three Nouns (things you can see). Example: table, chair, window.
2. Write one Verb (an action you can do right now). Example: sit, read, write.
3. Write one Adjective that describes something in the room. Example: The wall is white. ("white" is the adjective).
