  • Choose the best main idea from a few options for paragraphs about family, hobbies, or daily routines.

Hello Cambodian Learners!

When you read a story or an article, each part, or "paragraph," talks about one main thing. Finding this main idea helps you understand the whole text better. It's like finding the most important message in a short story. We'll practice this with topics you know, like talking about your family in Cambodia, your hobbies, or what you do every day.

What is the Main Idea?

The main idea is what a paragraph or text is mostly about. It's the most important point the writer wants to tell you.

To find the main idea, ask yourself: "What is this paragraph mostly talking about?"

Example: Click the paragraph to hear it.

Family Photo My name is Dara. I live in Battambang. I have a small family. I have one brother and one sister. We like to play together. My mother is a teacher. My father is a farmer. We are a happy family.

What is this paragraph mostly about?

The main idea is B. Dara's family because the paragraph talks mostly about his family members and what they do.
