Reading: Scanning for Specific Information
Lesson 3: Identifying Specific Colors or Objects in Picture Captions
Scanning Pictures and Words
We have practiced scanning lists for names and numbers. Today, we will scan a new type of text: a picture caption1.
A caption is the short text under a picture that describes it. We can scan captions to quickly find information about a color2 or an object3 in the picture.
How to Scan a Picture Caption
- Look at the picture first. What do you see?
- Know your target word. For example, "I am looking for a color" or "I am looking for the name of the vehicle."
- Scan the caption. Move your eyes quickly over the words below the picture to find your target.
