Grammar: Parts of Speech
A1 Lesson 7: Personal Pronouns (we, they)
With Me vs. Without Me
Today, we will learn the pronouns for talking about a group of people: we and they.
My friend and I are students.
→ We are students.
The tourists are happy.
→ They are happy.
The Grammar Rule 📖
When to Use 'We' and 'They'
We is used for a group that includes you (the speaker). Think: "Other people + I = We".
They is used for a group of other people, animals, or things that does not include you.
| Pronoun | Who is in the Group? | Example Sentence |
|---|---|---|
| We | A group with me | We play football on Sunday. |
| They | A group without me | They work at the salt fields. |
💡 Pro Tip: Verb Agreement
Remember! 'We' and 'they' are plural, so they always use the plural form of the verb, like 'are' or 'like' (not 'is' or 'likes').
Correct: We are students. They like football.
