Grammar: Parts of Speech
A1 Lesson 6: Personal Pronouns (he, she, it)
Why It Matters: Avoiding Repetition
We use pronouns to avoid repeating the same noun again and again. This makes our speaking and writing sound more natural.
My teacher is Mr. Bora. Mr. Bora is very kind.
My teacher is Mr. Bora. He is very kind.
The Grammar Rule 📖
We choose a pronoun based on what we are talking about.
He 👨
Use he for one man or one boy.
- My father is a fisherman. He is strong.
She 👩
Use she for one woman or one girl.
- My sister is a student. She is smart.
It 🐱
Use it for one animal, place, or thing.
- I have a cat. It is lazy.
- This is my phone. It is new.
💡 Pro Tip: Contractions
In speaking, we usually use contractions to sound more natural: "He is" becomes "He's", "She is" becomes "She's", and "It is" becomes "It's".
