This is the ultimate C1 trick! 🪄
In "want to go", the word "to" belongs to the infinitive verb (to go).
But in "object to", the verb is just "object". The word "to" is a preposition (like 'in' or 'at'). And what must come after a preposition? A noun or a gerund (-ing).
Test it: Can you put a noun after it? "I object to *the rules*". Yes! So you must use "-ing": "I object to *going*". 🧠
Teacher, I don't understand. Why is it "I want to go" but "I object to going"? They both have 'to'!
