✨ Activity: Building Simple Stories
Welcome to our final A1 review activity! Today, you will use all your grammar skills to build a simple story1.
A story describes a series of events2. A simple story needs a beginning, a middle, and an end. Let's look at the parts.
The Parts of a Simple Story
- The Setting3: WHO is in the story, and WHERE and WHEN does it happen?
- The Action: WHAT happens? What do the characters4 do?
- The End: How does the story finish? How does a character feel?
An Example Story
Read this short story about a tourist in Kampot. Notice the different parts.
(Setting) Yesterday was a sunny day. A tourist named Maria was at the riverside in Kampot. (Action) She rented a bicycle and rode to a small cafe. She bought a coffee and a croissant. (End) The coffee was delicious. Maria was very happy.
Note: This story uses the past tense (was, rented, rode), which we will learn about in future lessons!
Your Turn: Build a Story from "Pictures"
Imagine you are looking at three pictures. Write one or two sentences for each picture to create a short story about a girl named Srey Leak.
Picture 1: Srey Leak is at the market in the morning. She is looking at some fresh mangoes.
Picture 2: Srey Leak buys three mangoes. She talks to the seller, who is a friendly old woman.
Picture 3: Srey Leak is at home now. She eats a mango. She is smiling because it is sweet.
