Writing: Academic Integrity and Research Skills (C2) - Lesson 1: Principles of Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism

🎨 My Own Work: Do Not Copy

Objective: To understand that your school work should be your own.

  • Understand what "your own work" means.
  • Understand that copying a friend or a book is not good.
  • Practice choosing to do your own work.

A Story: Your Work Should Be Yours!

Let's look at two students, Maria and Leo. The teacher says, "Draw a picture!"

1. Maria draws her own picture. It is a house with a blue sun. This is great! It is her own work.

😊

2. Leo looks at Maria's paper. He copies her picture. He draws the same house and blue sun.

This is copying. This is not okay.

😟

3. Then, Leo thinks of his own idea. He draws a tree with a red bird.

This is his own work. This is good!

😃

Tip: Your ideas are good! Teachers want to see *your* work, not a copy of someone else's.

✍️ Practice Time

Activity 1: What Should You Do?

Read the story and choose the best action.

The teacher asks you to write the word "cat". Your friend writes C-A-T. What should you do?

Activity 2: Good Work or Not Good Work?

👍 Good Work
👎 Not Good Work

Well Done! You learned that doing your own work is important. Your ideas are great!
