The Verb 'to be': Talking About Plurals
We have learned "I am" and "he/she/it is." Today, we learn the last form for the present tense: are. We use "are" when we talk about more than one person or thing, or when we talk to someone using "you."
When the subject is plural (or "you"), we use "are".
- You are a good student.
- We are friends.
- They are playing.
- The cats are playful.
We can join these words to make them shorter:
- You are ➔ You're
- We are ➔ We're
- They are ➔ They're
Example: "They're playing." means "They are playing."
