Core & Everyday Vocabulary (A1)

Every day has a special name. We use these names to talk about what we did yesterday, what we are doing today, and what we plan to do tomorrow. Let's learn the seven days of the week¹ in English!

The Seven Days of the Week

Sunday - Khmer: ថ្ងៃអាទិត្យ

Monday - Khmer: ថ្ងៃច័ន្ទ

Tuesday - Khmer: ថ្ងៃអង្គារ

Wednesday - Khmer: ថ្ងៃពុធ

Thursday - Khmer: ថ្ងៃព្រហស្បតិ៍

Friday - Khmer: ថ្ងៃសុក្រ

Saturday - Khmer: ថ្ងៃសៅរ៍

Usage Note: Important Rules & Words

• Capital Letters: In English, the days of the week are special names, so they always start with a capital letter (e.g., Monday, not monday).
• Key Time Words: We use these words all the time.
  • Yesterday² was the day before today.
  • Today³ is this current day.
  • Tomorrow⁴ is the day after today.
• Using "On": When we talk about doing something on a specific day, we use the preposition "on". For example: "I will see you on Friday."
• Weekdays⁵ & Weekend⁶: The weekdays are Monday to Friday. The weekend is Saturday and Sunday.

Srey: Hi Maria! What are you doing on Friday?

Maria: Hi Srey! I am free on Friday evening. Why?

Srey: Do you want to go to the night market?

Maria: Oh, that sounds fun! Yes! Today is Wednesday, so Friday is in two days.

Srey: Great! I will see you on Friday. Have a good day!
