✨ Lesson 21: The Conjunction 'and'
Today we will learn a very useful word called a conjunction1. A conjunction is a word that joins or connects2 words and ideas together.
The most common conjunction is and. We use 'and' to add one thing to another.
How to Use 'and'
Here are three common ways to use 'and'.
1. To connect two nouns (things, people, places).
- I like Kampot pepper and durian.
- My town has a river and a mountain.
- My father and my mother are at home.
2. To connect two adjectives (describing words).
- The weather is hot and sunny.
- The people here are friendly and kind.
- My new shirt is blue and white.
3. To connect two actions or short sentences.
- We walk along the riverside and watch the sunset.
- He is a fisherman, and he works very hard.
- I drink coffee and read my book in the morning.
Using a Comma3 with a List4
When we connect three or more things, we use a comma ( , ) after each item, and 'and' before the last one.
For example: I bought mangoes, bananas, and pineapple.
