✨ Task: Writing a Short Story or Description

This is our final activity for the A2 level! It's your opportunity to be creative and use all the grammar you have learned to write a short piece.

You have two choices for this task¹: you can write a short story² about an event, or a detailed description³ of a place.

Option 1: Write a Short Story

A story describes events that happened in the past. It should have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Think about something that happened to you last week or last month.

Language to Use: Past Simple (was, were, went, saw), conjunctions (and, but, so, because), adverbs (slowly, suddenly), and time phrases (yesterday, last week).

Example Story Idea:
Last Saturday, I went to the market with my friend. It was very busy. We walked around slowly because there were so many people. Suddenly, I saw my old teacher! I was so surprised, so I went and said hello. We talked for a few minutes. It was a nice surprise.

Option 2: Write a Description

A description paints a picture with words. It describes what a place or person is like. Think about your favorite place in Siem Reap.

Language to Use: Present Simple (is, are, has, works), adjectives (beautiful, old, busy), comparatives/superlatives (bigger than, the best), and prepositions (in, on, near).

Example Description Idea:
My favorite cafe is near the river. It isn't the biggest cafe, but I think it's the best. There are comfortable chairs inside and a few tables outside. The coffee is always hot and strong. The staff are very friendly, so I always feel welcome there.
