Grammar: A2 - ✨ Grammar Essentials: 🏗️ Sentence Structure - Expanding - Lesson 6: Conjunction "so" (Showing results)

Grammar: The Conjunction 'So'

A2 Lesson 18: Showing Results

What you will learn: By the end of this lesson, you will be able to use the conjunction 'so' to connect a reason with its result.

Showing the Result ➡️

We use the word so to show the result or consequence of something. It helps us connect a reason to what happens next. The structure is simple:

[The Reason], so [The Result].

'Because' vs. 'So'

'Because' and 'so' are opposites. 'Because' introduces a reason, while 'so' introduces a result. Look how we can express the same idea in two different ways.

Because (gives the REASON)

We go to the cafe because we are thirsty.

I am tired because I woke up early.

So (gives the RESULT)

We are thirsty, so we go to the cafe.

I woke up early, so I am tired.

In Conversation

Here's how you might hear 'so' in a conversation in Siem Reap.

Srey: Wow, it is very hot today!
Pov: I know. I don't want to walk.
Srey: Me too, so let's get a tuk-tuk.
Pov: Good idea. And I don't have any water, so we should buy some before we go to the temple.
