Hello Learners! 👋
Today, we will learn how to build simple English sentences. Sentences are groups of words that tell a complete idea.
In this lesson, you will learn:
- What a subject and a verb are in a sentence.
- How to put a subject and a verb together to make a simple sentence.
- To use capital letters and full stops correctly in your sentences.
What Makes a Simple Sentence?
The simplest sentences in English have two main parts:
- A Subject: This is WHO or WHAT is doing the action. (e.g., I, You, He, She, It, We, They, The cat, My friend)
- A Verb: This is THE ACTION or state of being. (e.g., run, eats, sleep, is, like, play)
We put them together like this: Subject + Verb.
Examples:
- I read. (Subject: I, Verb: read)
- She sings. (Subject: She, Verb: sings)
- Birds fly. (Subject: Birds, Verb: fly)
- We eat. (Subject: We, Verb: eat)
Important Reminders:
- Start your sentence with a capital letter.
- End your statement sentence with a full stop (.).
- The word "I" is always a capital letter.

✨ Tips for Writing Simple Sentences ✨
- Ask "Who?" or "What?": This helps you find the subject. (e.g., "Who reads?" Answer: "I")
- Ask "Does what?": This helps you find the verb. (e.g., "I do what?" Answer: "read")
- Keep it simple: At first, use short subjects and common verbs you know.
- Check your C.U.P.S.:
- Capitals: Is the first letter capital? Is "I" capital?
- Understanding: Does your sentence make sense?
- Punctuation: Is there a full stop at the end?
- Spelling: Are the words spelled correctly? (For this lesson, we give you the words!)
