What you will learn: By the end of this lesson, you will be able to scan simple texts to find specific information like names, dates, times, and places quickly and without reading every word.

Reading very quickly to find one piece of information (like a name or number). You are *searching*, not reading.

Keyword

The specific word or idea you are searching for (e.g., "date," "time," "Mr. Dara").

How to Scan (Like a Detective!) 🕵️‍♀️

Scanning is a reading skill. You are not reading the whole story. You are looking for one answer. Follow these steps:

1. Know your question: What are you looking for? (A name? A time?)
2. Guess the "clue":
   • If you need a Time, look for : or AM/PM (e.g., 10:30 AM).
   • If you need a Date, look for numbers and months (e.g., May 5, 10/12/2025).
   • If you need a Name, look for Capital Letters (e.g., Dara, Mr. Chea).
   • If you need a Place, look for Capital Letters (e.g., Phnom Penh, The Garden Cafe).
3. Move your eyes quickly: Don't read every word! Let your eyes "scan" the page, looking only for your clue.
4. Stop when you find it: When you see the clue, stop and read the sentence to get your answer.
